
Pavel Niklviola / chamber music
The violist Pavel Nikl is one of the founding members of the renowned string quartet called Pavel Haas Quartet.
As a soloist, he has worked with a number of philharmonic ensembles. In 2002, the focus of his activity shifted to chamber music. Pavel Nikl also teaches and, as part of the PHQ activities, he has participated in the masterclass at universities in Europe, Japan, the USA and Australia. Since 2016, after ending his violin career in Pavel Haas Quartet, he has worked as a professor of viola and chamber music. However, he continues to work very closely with the ensemble. As an experienced chamber musician, he is invited to festivals and chamber concerts in the Czech Republic and abroad to collaborate with other top musicians such as Gill Shaham, Kian Soltani, Josef Špaček, Gerhard Oppitz and others.

Pavel Haas Quartet with Pavel Nikl has gained great international recognition for concert and recording activities. Immediately after winning the international competitions Prague Spring and Premio Paolo Borciani in Italian Reggio Emilia in 2005, Pavel Haas Quartet established itself among the most important chamber ensembles of today. It has performed at the world’s most famous concert halls, such as Konzerthaus Vienna, Mozarteum Salzburg and many others.
Pavel Haas Quartet exclusively records for Supraphon. For its six recordings for this company, the ensemble has won the most prestigious European Gramophone Award four times, including the recording of the year, Diapason d’Or de l’Année, and the BBC Music Magazine Award.
