Moravian Philharmonic Olomouc

The Moravian Philharmonic Orchestra Olomouc is one of the oldest symphony orchestras in the Czech Republic, dating back to 1945. It currently has approximately 90 members and is led by chief conductor Zsolt Hamar . The orchestra specializes in a wide repertoire, including works from the 19th and 20th centuries, and emphasizes authentic interpretations of Czech classics such as Antonín Dvořák, Bedřich Smetana, Leoš Janáček and Bohuslav Martinů.

The Moravian Philharmonic Orchestra Olomouc was founded immediately after the end of the war, on May 26, 1945 , and during its development, significant figures from the Czech and international music scene participated in its artistic formation. We can name all of them, for example, conductors Otto Klemperer and Václav Neumann, violinists Josef Suk and Gidon Kremer, and cellist Pierre Fournier. During its existence, the Moravian Philharmonic Orchestra Olomouc has created an exceptionally extensive and diverse repertoire. It is primarily dedicated to the great creators of world music of the 19th and 20th centuries , but it also promotes contemporary Czech and international music, as evidenced by the performance of more than 250 new works. The orchestra also ranks among the authentic interpreters of the classics of Czech national musical culture: Antonín Dvořák, Bedřich Smetana, Leoš Janáček, and Bohuslav Martinů.

The Moravian Philharmonic has a rich discography and performs at major international music festivals at home and abroad. Above all, it is a cultural institution that plays a major role in organizing artistic and concert life in Olomouc and the surrounding area. It organizes the Dvořák Olomouc Festival and the International Organ Festival Olomouc. Its activities also include a number of educational activities for children and young people.
